Elements for nature education

WELCOME to the nature education programmes for school classes (10 - 14 years) at JUFA Hotels in the Ausseerland!

These programmes are called elements. There are 5 different elements to choose from. They may only be booked by school classes staying in one of the JUFA Hotels in Ausseerland (Bad Aussee, Altaussee, Grundlsee) in the months of May, June, September and October 2025.

(Note: If you are interested in one of these offers for children between the ages of 3 and 14 outside of these schedule and regional conditions, simply send an enquiry by contact form sheet!)

How to book an element: please select an element from the following list of descriptions and a bookable date from the schedule of available dates for the months of May, June, September and October 2025  and provide information from the following list preferably by contact form sheet (also available on that page) or by e-mail to willkommen@wanderbar-markus.at . The General Terms and Conditions (GTC) apply!

  • desired date of the event
  • Select the desired time of your choice (3 options (see schedule): morning, afternoon or evening session) + desired start time. The final start time may be fixed in consultation with the contact person in order to coordinate the neighbouring booked events.
  • Your desired element (element I - V, if available for the desired date)
  • (If applicable, further information on the element, see description of element IV). This may be finally fixed in discussion with the contact person.
  • Desired venue (partly selectable, see descriptions of elements). As the venue must be an appropriate location for the selected element and the nearest booked events must also be coordinated, the final location may be determined in consultation with the contact person.
  • Name of the school and the school class, approximate number and age of participating pupils
  • Name of a contact person (teacher) and contact details of this person (mandatory: telephone number and e-mail address). As the main contact person, this teacher has to have all information about the booked event and be available for questions and, if necessary, short-term arrangements regarding necessary changes.
  • Details of the payment details for the invoices (down payment, final invoice): Person/institution making payment, address.
  • To finalise the booking, a deposit of 150 Euro is required for each booked event, regardless of the element chosen! Details of the account and further information will be provided in an email confirming the receipt of the booking. The booking is completed and the desired time and date are noted as BOOKED upon receipt of the full deposit in this account, which will be confirmed with a second e-mail! It is recommended to transfer the deposit promptly (deadline: max. 1 week), as another booking on the same date with earlier deposit may be given priority. In that case, an e-mail would be sent informing you that the date has been booked by another person.

DESCRIPTIONS OF ELEMENTS

ELEMENT I - Die Suche! - The Quest!

Element I provides search and puzzle tasks led by a guide, which are set in a context and form a so-called ‘quest’ for school classes. These tasks are part of a story and alltogether they form the quest including a goal at the end that is specified or suggested at at the beginning. There are various quests with different backgrounds, some of which may be chosen by the pupils.

The design of the tasks often requires the use of individual skills, which will need to be combined in the team if a successful result is to be expected. Fun and excitement are involved as the tasks focus on agility, dexterity, stamina, strength, orientation, adventure, discovery, design and awareness. There may even be surprises from time to time! As a quest is a larger task, distances of up to 4 km have to be walked.

A quest may be more or less physically demanding. More demanding might mean crossing shallow water, carrying someone else alone or together with others, walking a short distance over a slackline or balancing on it, walking uphill and carrying something together... so it is not too demanding either. As these are often team tasks, not every person will find them challenging. However, they might occasionally occur.

Focus is on play, fun and excitement and safety is at high priority. Scratches, slips, stumbles etc. nevertheless might happen and getting dirty and getting your feet wet is also possible! The leader of the quest will adjust the physical and mental challenge factor to the group. If you are seriously concerned about the skill level of your group despite these circumstances, or if you think they are capable of much more anyway, you may choose element IV, the element for adjusting content to the abilities of the group. This not only allows you to change the ratio of content (taken from nature education or not), but also the proportion of physical and mental requirements.

Content of a quest is mostly from the field of nature education. Choose IMPARTING KNOWLEDGE ABOUT NATURE if you want to know more about what is meant by that. In addition, tasks that have little or nothing to do with nature education may be set. Ratio is approx. 75:25, i.e. the majority of them are related to nature education, as the event is only held outdoors. A quest is therefore not a programme for indoor areas!

Possible venues for element I, a quest are mainly located in the Bad Aussee, Altaussee and Grundlsee area. You may choose from ‘Ruine Pflindsberg’, ‘Am Sattel (Tressensteinwarte)’, ‘Obertressen’ and ‘Ranftlmühle’. The final meeting point will be determined by arrangement and can be reached by car/bus and sometimes by a short walk. All of that information will be provided in advance.

The Quest - fun and excitement!

Duration of a quest: approx. 3 hours (might be a bit more or less). Time starts at the arranged starting time, e.g. at 8.30 am on site at the booked meeting point. Therefore, depending on the venue, please allow at least 15 minutes, more likely 30 minutes for the arrival, gathering of the group etc. and also coordinate the timed departure to get to lunch or dinner in time (take a snack with you if necessary)! Delays will not be made up for.

Price: 30,- Euro per person (except a teacher, if he/she is included).

Services included: If necessary, coordination with the contact person (teacher) throughout the organisation and running of the event.

Services not included in the price: Travel to and from the booked meeting point or any other destination, parking fees, costs for any meals in between, other fees outside the included services.

List of necessary equipment for element I - Die Suche! - The Quest!:

  • Clothing as required by the weather!
  • Shoes (sandals or similar) that in the worst case may get wet if there is a task involving water.
  • Snack and drink as required! There are numerous opportunities to eat and drink during the event!

Element I - Die Suche! - The Quest! is led by WANDERBAR Markus Leonhartsberger and sometimes by a second person. Because of that participation of teachers is not necessary. If the participation of a teacher is desired by the teacher him/herself, this may be possible upon agreement. It is also possible that WANDERBAR Markus Leonhartsberger asks a teacher to participate. In both cases, a teacher acts as an accompanying person in the background, which is communicated to the pupils. WANDERBAR Markus Leonhartsberger alone is responsible for leading the event.

Please refer to the descriptions of elements (after element V) to read about your options in the event of bad weather!

Element II - The Adventurers!

Choose element II - The Adventurers! if you want to focus mainly on movement, dexterity, some effort in terms of strength or endurance, but also on emotions and awareness. It offers school classes games and tasks led by a guide. These are embedded in a story, but - in contrast to element I - Die Suche! - The Quest - have no context and no specific goal, except one: to have fun and learn something at the same time. Element II offers different backgrounds, some of which can be chosen by the pupils. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)

The structure of the tasks often requires the use of individual skills and it also depends on teamwork, but perhaps a little less than in element I. There are also surprises from time to time! Element II takes place in and around a specific location. There may be distances of up to 2 kilometres to walk.

Element II - The Adventurers! therefore involves certain physical challenges - in accordance with its name. Challenging may mean crossing shallow water while balancing on stones, carrying someone else alone or together with others, walking a short distance over a slackline or balancing on it, walking uphill and carrying something together, walking a short distance on all fours... so it is not too challenging either.

Focus is on play, fun and excitement and safety is a high priority. Scratches, slips, stumbles etc. might still happen and getting dirty and getting your feet wet too! The guide of this event adjusts the physical and mental challenge factor to the group. If you trust your pupils to do what has been described and much more anyway, element II is a good choice. If you are still seriously concerned about the skill level of your group, you may choose element IV, the module for adjusting content to the capabilities of the group. This allows you to change not only the ratio of content (from nature education or not), but also the proportion of strength, endurance, skill and confidence required. However, element II is a programme that involves a certain amount of physical activity and should only be changed slightly in this regard. If element II is too adventurous for you, choose element III - This is fun! because that one focuses more on fun games, exploration and design.

Approximately half of the content of Module II - The Adventurers! belongs to nature education programme. Choose IMPARTING KNOWLEDGE ABOUT NATURE if you want to know more about what is meant by this. The other part consists of tasks that have little or nothing to do with nature education, so the ratio is about 50:50.

Possible venues for element II are mainly located in the Bad Aussee, Altaussee and Grundlsee area. Please choose from ‘Am Sattel (Tressensteinwarte)’, ‘Obertressen’ and ‘Ranftlmühle’. The exact meeting point is to be determined by arrangement and can be reached by car/bus and sometimes a short walk. Information about that will be provided in advance.

The Adventurers!:

Duration of element II - The Adventurers!: approx. 2.5 hours. Time starts at the arranged starting time, e.g. at 8.30 am on site at the booked meeting point. Therefore, depending on the venue, please allow at least 15 minutes, more likely 30 minutes for your arrival, gathering of the group etc. and also coordinate timed departure to get to lunch or dinner by yourself (take a snack with you if necessary)! Delays will not be made up!

Price: 25,- Euro per person (except one teacher, if he/she is included).

Services included: If necessary, coordination with the contact person (teacher) throughout the organisation and running of the event.

Services not included in the price: Travelling to and from the booked meeting point, parking fees, costs for any meals in between, other fees outside of the included services.

List of necessary equipment for element II - The adventurers!:

  • Clothing as required by the weather!
  • Shoes (sandals or similar) that in the worst case may get wet if there is a task involving water.
  • Snack and drink as required! There are numerous opportunities to eat and drink during the event!

Element II - The Adventurers! is led by WANDERBAR Markus Leonhartsberger and sometimes by a second person. Because of that participation of teachers is not necessary. If the participation of a teacher is desired by the teacher him/herself, this may be possible upon agreement. It is also possible that WANDERBAR Markus Leonhartsberger asks a teacher to participate. Element III - That is fun!

Focus of element III - This is fun! is on games and tasks that are fun. Content is based more on light movement and dexterity and a little less effort, and in case it is, it's about having fun. There may be some content concerning exploring, creating and being aware. As in element II, element III - This is fun! is embedded in a background that may be partially chosen by the pupils. However, games and tasks are not connected here either and there is no specific goal as in element I, except one: to have fun and learn something as well.

Task structure often requires the use of individual skills and it also depends on teamwork, but to more or less the same extent as in element II. There are also surprises from time to time! Element III - This is fun! takes place in and around a specific location. Distances of up to 2 kilometres may have to be walked. As already mentioned, there is little physical effort involved, but it does occur a little.

Focus is on play, fun and excitement and safety is a high priority. Scratches, slips, stumbles etc. might still happen and getting dirty and getting your feet wet too! The guide of this event will adjust the physical and mental challenge factor to the group. If you trust your pupils to do what is described and much more anyway, element II - The Adventurers! is the better choice. If you are seriously concerned about your group's ability in advance, it is best to stick with element III!

Only a quite small part of the content of element III - This is fun! is from nature education. Choose IMPARTING KNOWLEDGE ABOUT NATURE if you want to know more about what is meant by this. By far the larger part is covered by tasks that have little or nothing to do with nature education, so the ratio is about 25:75. So you may use element IV to add ‘more nature education’ to element III if you like.

Possible venues for element III are mainly located in the Bad Aussee, Altaussee and Grundlsee area. You may choose from ‘Directly at the JUFA Hotel Bad Aussee’, ‘Am Sattel (Tressensteinwarte)’, ‘Obertressen’ and ‘Ranftlmühle’. The exact meeting points may be determined in coordination and can be reached by car/bus and a short walk. Information about that will be provided in advance.

Element IV - The element to change settings!

Element IV - The element to change settings! is perfect if you already like one of the other elements I - III or V, but would like to make a few adjustments to the respective element in order to make content more suitable for your pupils.

Basically two settings may be changed:

Ratio of content:

These either derive from nature education or not! The ratio of shares is described in each of the elements I - III and V and you may change it. Remember you cannot choose any values you like, because each module has a basic orientation and you can only influence this to a certain extent. Element I - Die Suche! - The Quest will always have a high proportion of nature education and you can only modify it to a limited extent. You can change more of it in elements II and III.

The proportion of physical skills required:

Either more or less demanding, challenging or with an adventurous character, this is adjustable. Please note that each element I - III and V has its basic orientation. Element II - The Adventurers! generally has a higher proportion of this than element III - This is fun! Element IV is intended to make moderate changes. So before you try to ‘tone down’ element II - The Adventurers! to a low degree, it is better to choose element III - This is fun! because this generally has a smaller proportion of it.

Possible venues for element IV: Choose one of the other 4 modules and one of the specified venues. Please note the information in the particular description of the element!

The element to change settings:

Duration of element IV - The element to change settings!: that depends on which of the other 4 elements (I - III, V) you choose. The specified duration of the selected basic element is shown in the relevant description. Pay attention to all the details of the element you choose.

Price: The price also depends on the basic element selected. Changing certain parameters does not cost any more.

Services included: If necessary, coordination with the contact person (teacher) throughout the organisation and running of the event.

Services not included in the price: Travelling to and from the booked meeting point, parking fees, costs for any meals in between, other fees outside of the included services.

List of equipment for element IV - The element to change settings!:

  • The same equipment is required as in the selected basic element (Element I - III or V).

Element IV - The element to change settings! is led by WANDERBAR Markus Leonhartsberger and sometimes by a second person.

Element V - Games at dusk and darkness!

Element V - Games at dusk and in darkness! contains exactly what the name suggests. Awareness and concentration games and tasks with the same focus make up the content. In addition, games with light (torch, headlamp) in teams or as individual tasks are part of the event. Fun and excitement are definitely on the cards and some games could also give you a thrill. Games at dusk and in the dark! is only bookable as an evening event!

Like the other elements, this event has a background that can be chosen or co-created by the pupils. However, games and tasks in element V are also not linked and there is no specific goal as in element I, except to have fun and additionally learn something.

Task structure often requires the use of individual skills and it also depends on teamwork. There may be surprises from time to time! Physical effort is less of a focus.

Safety has a high priority. Scratches, slips, stumbles etc. might still happen, and getting dirty, too! The guide of this event adjusts the physical and mental challenge factor to the level of the group.

Content of element V - Games at dusk and darkness! derives to about 40% from nature education. Choose IMPARTING KNOWLEDGE ABOUT NATURE if you want to know more about what is meant by this. The larger part is covered by tasks that have little or nothing to do with nature education, so the ratio is about 40:60. Using element IV, you may enhance element V in terms of ‘more nature education’ if you wish - or increase physical demands.

Venue of element V: Element V will only be carried out at a single location, in the immediate vicinity of the JUFA Hotel Bad Aussee (around the hotel on grassy areas and possibly on other open spaces).

Games at dusk and darkness!

Duration of element V - Games at dusk and darkness! : approx. 1.5-2 hours. Time starts at the arranged starting time, e.g. at 7.30 pm in front of the hotel. Delays will not be made up for.

Price: 20,- Euro per person (except one teacher, if he/she is included).

Services included: If necessary, coordination with the contact person (teacher) throughout the organisation and running of the event.

Services not included in the price: Travelling to and from the booked meeting point, parking fees, costs for any meals in between, other fees outside of the included services.

List of equipment for element V - Games at dusk and darkness!:

  • Clothing as required by the weather!
  • Torch or headlamp
  • Snack and drink as required!

Element V - Games at dusk and darkness! is led by WANDERBAR Markus Leonhartsberger and sometimes by a second person. Because of that participation of teachers is not necessary. If the participation of a teacher is desired by the teacher him/herself, this may be possible upon agreement. It is also possible that WANDERBAR Markus Leonhartsberger asks a teacher to participate. Bad weather, what to do now?

What is meant to be bad weather?

Bad weather means e.g. heavy, continuous rain, strong winds, while taking into account the weather forecast for the following hours.

What's not bad weather?

Cloudy skies, humid or rain-soaked meadows and forest ground in the morning or evening or after rain, light spray or light rain, periods of light rain and intervals of rain, moderate wind without rain. All these conditions do not mean bad weather, although the weather forecast for the following hours must be taken into account.

Options in case of bad weather:

Normally, all elements I - V take place outdoors. In case of certainty or probability of bad weather (in doubt, arrangement is required!) all elements will take place indoors at the JUFA Hotel Bad Aussee and adjustments will be made depending on the element booked.

Element I - Die Suche! - The Quest! booked? Alternatively, one of the elements (II, III, IV or V) may be selected and the duration (originally approx. 3 hours) is shortened. Elements II and III: approx. 2.5 hours at a price of 25 Euro per person. Element V approx. 1.5 - 2 hours at 20 Euro per person. That means it is no longer a quest, as it would be inappropriate to run it indoors.

Element II - The Adventurers! booked? An indoor programme of the same length is provided at the same price as the outdoor programme (approx. 2.5 hours for 25 Euro per person).

Element III - This is fun! booked? An indoor programme of the same length is provided at the same price as the outdoor programme (approx. 2.5 hours for 25 Euro per person).

Element IV - The element to change settings! booked? Depending on the selection of the basic element, the alternative one described here is carried out at the stated alternative price.

Element V - Games at dusk and in the dark! booked? There will be an evening event indoors of the same length and the same price as outdoors (1.5 - 2 hours for 20 Euros per person).

The meeting point is always the reception area of the JUFA Hotel Bad Aussee at the arranged starting time. Delays will not be made up for.
